This flyer series is an exploration of typography, layout, and visual storytelling. Created for Indy Gay Market’s 2025 Halloween Art Market, the collection reimagines Halloween design through the lens of editorial magazine covers, blending bold headlines, layered type, dynamic composition, and high-contrast imagery.

Instead of relying on the traditional Halloween ghouls and pumpkins, the series highlights uncommon icons and presents them in unexpected ways. Familiar elements are elevated through dramatic cropping, intentional negative space, and strong typographic hierarchy. Oversized mastheads, punchy subheadings, and cover-line details guide the viewer’s eye like a contemporary fashion or culture magazine.

The layouts experiment with scale and tension using stacked type, overlapping elements, and deliberate asymmetry to create energy and urgency. Each flyer feels collectible, functioning as both event promotion and standalone print design. Overall, the series positions Indy Gay Market’s Halloween Art Market as curated, design-driven, and visually iconic.

2025 Halloween

2025 Pride Market

This poster concept is inspired by the historic “Gay Knights on the Circle” protests at Monument Circle, the first large public queer gathering in Indianapolis. At the time, the organization worked to increase LGBTQ visibility, hoping that solidarity would reduce police harassment and push for stronger action in response to the rising murders of LGBTQ individuals. That moment marked a turning point in both public presence and recognition from the city, and it continues to hold powerful meaning.

Rather than repeating last year’s medieval-themed approach, I chose to move in a more direct symbolic direction using unicorns and horses. The imagery of fighting horses became central to the concept. In the wild, horses only fight when their home base is threatened, when they are protecting their space and their herd. That instinct felt deeply aligned with the current social and political climate, where queer communities are once again defending their rights, safety, and visibility.

Monument Circle has long been a place where our community gathers to be seen and heard. The fact that our markets are now held there annually feels significant. It is both a celebration and a statement. The imagery serves as a symbolic reminder that we have history in this space, and that our continued presence is powerful.

I was given complete creative freedom with this poster, which allowed me to lean into this layered symbolism. The intention is to honor our history, acknowledge the present moment, and create a bold visual declaration of resilience and belonging.

2026 Valentine’s Market

This poster features a bold red composition with airbrushed animals that represent documented queer relationships in nature. The animals are rendered in a soft, glowing airbrush style that feels nostalgic, reminiscent of vintage fair tees, album covers, and 90s fantasy illustrations. That visual language adds warmth and familiarity while still feeling striking and contemporary.

The vibrant red background was an intentional choice. It creates an immediate impact, allowing both the animals and the typography to stand out with clarity and confidence. Red carries emotional weight. It signals passion, urgency, love, and power, reinforcing the message behind the imagery. Against this saturated backdrop, the softer gradients of the airbrushed forms feel luminous and alive.

This theme highlights that queerness exists naturally and historically, not as something new or constructed. The result is a visually arresting piece that uses color, texture, and symbolism to celebrate visibility in a way that feels both tender and unapologetically bold.

The bottom line is that we have significant evidence to indicate that queerness has always existed naturally in history. Indy Gay Market’s annual events are the anchor for the continuous celebration of queer joy in a state actively fighting against it. This is what makes Queer Joy Revolutionary.
